Description

DARIEN, IL – Darien's outgoing trash provider mistakenly billed residents for the next quarter, starting April 1, the city said Wednesday. The city said Houston-based Waste Management had an error in its billing system. The company's contract ends next Thursday. Last fall, the city chose Morton Grove-based LRS over Waste Management. The LRS contract begins April 1. The city advises residents not to pay the bills sent out by Waste Management. For questions, residents can call Waste Management at 708-409-9700. Last week, the city got calls that Waste Management was already taking recycling carts from residents who had not paid up. In a couple of instances, residents were not delinquent in their bills, City Administrator Bryon Vana told the City Council this week. "(Waste Management) agreed to hold off taking any containers," Vana said. "I was surprised they did that with a couple of weeks left. I was hoping that was a one-day situation. It shouldn't be happening anymore."
