Cupertino Library Expansion Project Gets $1M In Federal Funding

CUPERTINO, CA — The city of Cupertino received $1 million in federal funding towards the Cupertino Library Expansion Project, the city announced in a news release Tuesday. The funding was secured by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and will be used to aid in the library project, which includes adding on 5,600 square feet in space along with two stories, multi-purpose rooms and a new outdoor courtyard. "The Cupertino Library is a vital part of our community and I'm thrilled to see this funding included in the FY22 funding bill that President Biden signed into law," Khanna said in a news release. "This project will expand space for community gatherings and support the library's educational programming." The library, which is expected to serve nearly a million visitors in the coming years, is the most visited of the branches in the Santa Clara County Library District. Cupertino Mayor Darcy Paul added his appreciation for Khanna for helping secure the funds. "The Cupertino City Council over the years has worked hard to deliver to the community this amenity," Paul said. "I'm also especially grateful for my colleagues who have recognized and supported this project as a much-needed enhancement of a well-loved space by our residents and the public at large."
