YORKVILLE, IL — A Plainfield man was arrested Saturday on accusations of several offenses including vehicle theft, DUI and trespass to vehicle after members of the Yorkville Police Department were called to an SUV theft in the 700 block of Morgan Street. According to a news release from the police department, police were called after a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer — left running in the home's garage — was stolen. At 4:36 a.m., Yorkville police officers were called to a business in the 2000 block of S. Bridge Street regarding a suspicious person, the news release said. Around the same time, the stolen Chevy Trailblazer was recovered in a ditch (in the 7000 block of S. Bridge Street). At 4:40 a.m., Yorkville police were advised of a single car accident in the 1000 block of South Main Street, during which a 1999 GMC Sonoma was heavily damaged on its front end, according to the news release. Through an on-scene investigation near where the suspicious person report came from, police verified that the person involved in the accident in the 1000 block of S. Main Street was 18-year-old Griffin K. Gillespie, from the 13000 block of Timberwood Circle in Plainfield, according to the news release. Gillespie was arrested on accusations of several driving offenses including driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), the news release said. Through further investigation, Police verified that Gillespie had driven the previouslymentioned stolen car (recovered in the 7000 block of S. Bridge St.), according to the news release. Gillespie faces charges of felony theft of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor trespassto vehicle, two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol, operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to police. Gillespie is at the Kendall County Jail.
