County Invests ARPA Funds To Support COVID-19 Strategic Recovery

Press release from the Mecklenburg County Government: 3/18/2022 Description1 Mecklenburg County is moving forward to negotiate contracts for projects that will be funded with money allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 or ARPA. ARPA provides relief funds to eligible state, local and tribal governments that have been negatively affected by the coronavirus. The Treasury Department allocated $215 million in ARPA funds to Mecklenburg County. To date, the County has received $108 million of those funds with the remaining funds expected to arrive in May. ARPA funds will be used to support the County's COVID-19 Strategic Recovery Plan. The plan focuses on key priority areas designed to improve the quality of life for Mecklenburg County residents impacted by the pandemic. In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the Board of County Commissioners voted to allow County Manager Dena R. Diorio to proceed with negotiating contracts for plans that support the County's COVID-19 Strategic Recovery Plan. Following an application period for funding - $366.1 million projects were deemed eligible for funding. County Manager Dena R. Diorio is recommending $59.4 million is invested in eligible projects. The amount includes $26.9 million for Behavioral Health and Health Equity, $14.6 million for Parks, Environment, and Infrastructure, $8.0 million for Affordable Housing and Homelessness, $6.7 million for Workforce and Economic Development and $3.0 million for Childcare and Early Childhood Development.
