'Rest Easy, Luke': Retired Kendall County Sheriff's K-9 Dies

YORKVILLE, IL — Retired Kendall County Sheriff's office K-9 Deputy Luke has died, the sheriff's office confirmed to Patch Tuesday. K-9 Luke's recent death comes just over one year since his retirement during July 2019. Luke (pictured above), a dual-purpose German Shepherd from Poland, started his career with the sheriff's office on Dec. 17, 2010 with his handler, Deputy DeCamp, the sheriff's office said. According to the sheriff's office, the K-9 deputy specialized in narcotics detection for both vehicular and residential searches, and patrol work including tracking, handler protection, and evidence searches. Upon retirement, Sgt. David Lawson presented a plaque to DeCamp and Luke for their nine years of service together. Luke was adopted by DeCamp and his family to "live out his days and enjoy retired life," the sheriff's office said. Don't miss updates about precautions in the Yorkville area as they are announced.
