Press release from the City of Huntsville Parks & Recreation Department: March 22, 2022 Huntsville Parks & Recreation knows a thing or two about organizing team sports, but now the department seeks to add new players to its team. There are several part- and full-time opportunities available for anyone seeking a position in a fast-paced, rewarding field. Huntsville Parks & Recreation is one of the City's most dynamic departments because it provides quality-of-life amenities and programming to Huntsville's demographically diverse community. "Having a great team is paramount to providing the best possible service to all members of the community," said James Gossett, director of Huntsville Parks & Rec. "For most of our employees, this isn't just a job – it's a calling. There's a lot of hard work involved, but we have a lot of fun, too." The department has full-time openings for a first- and second-shift Recreation Leader and Security Officer. Because the positions are full-time, new hires would be eligible for health insurance, paid time off and City holidays, and a retirement plan administered by the Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA). The application portal for Recreation Leader closes at 6 p.m. March 30, while the Security Officer opening closes at 6 p.m. April 5. There are also two part-time positions ideal for young adults or teens, though anyone can apply. Parks & Rec will be hiring 30 Recreation Aides for City recreation centers. This person will assist in planning, implementing, scheduling, coordinating and promoting a variety of sports and recreation programs, among other duties. Interested candidates have until 6 p.m. April 1 to apply. Finally, there's a need for part-time lifeguards at the Huntsville Aquatics Center and Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center. Requirements include a certificate in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and AED. Because there's a year-round need for lifeguards, candidates can apply through 6 p.m. Dec. 30. There are job opportunities in several other City departments. Those interested in pursuing a career with the City can fill out a job interest card to be notified when positions become available or visit the Job Opportunities page to browse openings.
