Classical banjoist seeking to form experimental music group

I'm a classical / romantic banjoist (I play gut / nylon strung, 19th century banjos) and am interested in exploring other genres of music and expanding the capabilities of the instrument. To that end, I'm looking to jam, develop a musical concept, and eventually compose / perform music with like-minded, eclectic musicians. Both acoustic and electric instruments are welcome. I'm listen to a lot of genres... ambient, dub, punk, old-school metal, jazz, classical, world / new age... some older avant music groups that I listen to are Naked City, Captain Beefheart, and Michael Askill.
