Press release from West Chester University: November 10, 2020 Students in the Department of Theatre at West Chester University will present a LIVE virtual performance of SHE KILLS MONSTERS: VIRTUAL REALMS by Qui Nguyen on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. The show will be live-streamed on YouTube. Following the live performance, the show will be available digitally through November 30. SHE KILLS MONSTERS: VIRTUAL REALMS is FREE with donations encouraged, but audiences must register for a link to the performance at http://www.wcupatix.com/theatreanddance. All donations will be used to support future University Theatre productions. SHE KILLS MONSTERS: VIRTUAL REALMS is an online theatrical experience directed by associate professor of Theatre, John Bellomo, and is a comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games. Agnes Evans leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death on her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly's Dungeons and Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly's refuge. Notably, the show, which has been a popular choice for high schools and universities since its premiere in 2011, was adapted by the playwright in the spring of 2020 to accommodate a high school in New Jersey who couldn't continue their production when stay-at-home orders were mandated. Originally titled just SHE KILLS MONSTERS, the addition of VIRTUAL REALMS to the title now means the production will use an online video conferencing platform. For this production, the Department of Theatre teamed with Philadelphia's Die-Cast, a company dedicated to creating immersive work that is tailored to specific non-traditional venues, to deliver this show virtually. Die-Cast provided digital design and consultation and assisted the students on the presentation of the show. This press release was produced by West Chester University.
