Dozens Cited By Woodridge PD During Labor Day Traffic Campaign

WOODRIDGE, IL — The Woodridge Police Department announced Friday the results of the recent Labor Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. According to a news release from the police department, Woodridge police issued 68 citations during the nearly 3-week enforcement campaign. Citations included 40 for speeding, 16 for seat-belt violations and 12 more for various violations, according to the news release. "As traffic safety partners, we do our best to make sure all drivers and other road users are safe," Woodridge Police Department Deputy Chief Tom Stefanson said, in the news release. "While enforcement campaigns like these save lives, there is still much to be done. Please help us spread the message: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." According to the news release, 10,511 people were killed in drunk driving crashes across the U.S. in 2018, making up nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities that year. More than 10,000 people have died as a result of impaired driving each of the last 4 years in the U.S., the news release said. Woodridge Police joined enforcement agencies and highway safety partners throughout the state for the enforcement effort, the news release said. The statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns are made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
