WOODRIDGE, IL — Woodridge School District 68 is pivoting back to remote learning Thursday, one week after welcoming groups of students back into the classroom as part of an in-person hybrid model. Based on the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) current school metrics on community transmission of the coronavirus, the county remains in the "substantial community transmission ('red') level as numbers continue to trend in the wrong direction," Woodridge School District 68 Superintendent Dr. Patrick Broncato said in a letter to families. He added that moderate community transmission ("orange") would be required before a return to hybrid learning could be considered. The fully remote learning plan includes: All students, including special education, early childhood and Pre-K, will move back to fully remote learning starting on Thursday.Students with continue learning with their new teachers, allowing for an easier transition back to in-school hybrid learning if the district can do so in the future.Remote only students will stay with their current schedule.Hybrid students will receive a new schedule for at-home learning."We know how painful this is for our students, families, staff and community members," Broncato stated. "We have heard from parents advocating strongly for staying in hybrid learning and for return to remote only. Ultimately, the number of new cases of COVID-19 in DuPage County and in our community necessitates this change in direction. We must also acknowledge that we hold the key to reducing COVID-19 cases in our own hands, by wearing masks, keeping socially distanced and washing our hands. We can make a difference."
