WOODRIDGE, IL — An investigation into a fatal bicycle crash involving a 15-year-old trying to cross 75th Street Friday night indicates that this was not a hit-and-run accident, the Woodridge Police Department said in a Thursday news release. Police added that this case is an active investigation, and the cars involved in the incident are accounted for. A GoFundMe has been started for the family of Evan Melau, a 15-year-old Downers Grove South High School student who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Woodridge while riding his bike Friday. In an email to students Saturday, Downers Grove South Principal Ed Schwartz said Melau was an active member of the student body and was involved in football, baseball and basketball at the school; he described him as "a fantastic young man and a leader with a charismatic charm."
