Cook, PhD, Assistant Teaching Professor of Art History, School of Art, Ball State University, Project Historian and BSU Faculty for the Handshouse Studio “La Forêt” Model Project. As part of the Notre-Dame de Paris Truss Project, Handshouse Studio is organizing a national project to invite colleges, universities and their faculty and students to join us in building a large-scale wooden model of the oldest trusses in the roof structure above the cathedral’s choir. March 21st-March 25th: Handshouse Studio is doing a workshop at it's headquarters in Norwell, MAParticipants from the North Bennet Street School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Gordon College, Catholic University, and Ball State University are coming together to take on the challenge of building a 1/10 scale model of the end of the Notre-Dame de Paris choir. The Apse, the hemispherical vault that terminates this iconic roof was made up of a complex wooden system of interconnected trusses and timber supports. We are piecing together information from architectural drawings and digital scans made of the roof structure before it burned in 2019 to make as accurate a reconstruction as we can. Come check it out!
