FREEHOLD, NJ - Two officers from the Freehold Township Police Department performed a 'life-saving' rescue last weekend, successfully resuscitating an infant that was not breathing. Officers Alex Fay and Justin Nunno responded to a report of an unresponsive two-month-old child at a Whistler Drive residence at around 9:46 p.m. on Dec. 19. The pair "immediately began life-saving resuscitation efforts," according to a news release from the Freehold Township Police Department, which included Fay performing chest compressions and Nunno suctioning fluids from the infant's nose and mouth. The officers continued to assist the young resident until Freehold First Aid and RWJ Paramedics transported the 2-month-old to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. As of Dec. 20, the child was stable and being treated by hospital staff. "We commend both of these officers for their efforts under such dire circumstances," the police department said. It was not immediately clear what led the infant to stop breathing.
