Florence Beatrice Price was an African-American classical composer, pianist, organist and music teacher, born in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Dunbar Neighborhood Association celebrates the classical compositions of Little Rock's own Florence B. Price. Florence Price was born in Little Rock, Arkansas Dunbar neighborhood in 1887, and attended what is now known as Dunbar Magnet Middle School. Price won first prize in the Wanamaker Competition with her Symphony in E minor and as a result, became the first female composer of African descent to have a symphonic work performed by a major national symphony orchestra. The concert will feature some of Price's works performed by concert pianists Dr. Karen Walryn from New York, and Linda Holzerand, DMus. , Nesheeda Golden, (Mezzo Soprano), and Ronald W. McDaniel, ll (Baritone).
