Darien Police Department Swears In First Female Captain

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Police Department has officially sworn in its first female captain. In a small ceremony at police headquarters Monday morning, Police Commissioner Kevin Cunningham administered the oath to Alison Hudyma, making her captain of the department's administrative services bureau. The ceremony was attended by Chief Don Anderson, State Rep. Terrie Wood, First Selectman Monica McNally, former First Selectman Jayme Stevenson and Police Commissioner Brent Hayes. Police said they will hold a larger ceremony in the spring to celebrate Captain Hudyma and additional promotions the department plans to make soon. "We would like to congratulate Captain Hudyma and wish her the best of luck in her new role!" the Darien Police Department wrote on Facebook. Photos of the swearing-in ceremony can be found here. Darien police announced Hudyma's promotion on March 9. In a news release, Anderson called her a "dedicated and valuable member of the Darien Police Department." Hudyma first made department history in 2019, when she became its first female lieutenant. She graduated from the Connecticut POST-C Police Academy in 2000. After serving as a patrol officer for 11 years, she was promoted to sergeant in 2011, and then to lieutenant in 2019.
