BROOKFIELD, CT — The community will be gathering on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the grounds of Brookfield Town Hall in solidarity with the victims of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
First Selectman Tara Carr, State Rep. Stephen Harding and other local leaders will be speaking, according to organizer Joel Grudzinski.
"The goal is for the community to gather, as other communities have," Grudzinski said. "We have some yellow and blue ribbons on which families will write messages of hope, and we will put them all over the tree in front of the entrance to Town Hall."
In addition to being a display of support for Ukraine, Grudzinski hopes the ribbons will spur those who drive past Town Hall to find their own ways to get involved.
Attendees of the rally may purchase bracelets, made by Brookfield middle school students. The money raised will be donated to the Ukrainian National Home of Hartford which has been spearheading Ukrainian relief efforts in the area.
