PISCATAWAY, NJ — A 64-year-old man riding a bike was hit by a semi-trailer truck Friday afternoon on River Road in Piscataway, and he still remains hospitalized as of Tuesday, according to Piscataway Police.
The man is from Highland Park, said Lt. Mike Smith of the Piscataway Police Dept.
He was wearing a helmet when he was hit by the tractor trailer at 4 p.m. Friday on River Road.
He sustained injuries to his upper body and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, where he still remains hospitalized as of Tuesday morning.
Lt. Smith did not know the man's medical condition (stable, critical, etc.). No charges have been filed against the truck driver in the incident.
However, he wanted to remind the public to be extremely vigilant, especially as the weather turns nice and many people begin to explore New Jersey roads for biking, cycling, running and more.
"Friday was a beautiful day. I was at the accident scene and in the time I was there, I must have seen 10 to 12 other cyclists pass by on River Road," said the police lieutenant. "It's a popular road for cyclists. However, it is a high-traffic roadway."
