PLAINFIELD, IL — During Plainfield police's week-long St. Patrick's Day enforcement campaign, officers issued 61 tickets and made two arrests, including one for drunk driving.
Plainfield police, along with several other state and local law enforcement agencies, participated in the federally funded "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaign, which lasted from March 11 to March 18.
During the St. Patrick's Day-related enforcement, Police increased seat belt enforcement, especially at night, and also "strictly enforced" speeding, distracted driving and other traffic laws, Patch reported.
In the eight-day span, Plainfield officers issued 42 seat belt tickets, 14 speeding tickets and five other citations, officials announced Monday. Police also made two arrests, one for driving under the influence of alcohol and another for driving with a suspended license.
"We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason; to save lives," police wrote in a news release. "Encouraging sober driving and seat-belt use improves safety for all."
