PHILADELPHIA — A 15-year-old boy is in Philadelphia Police custody after authorities said he shot two teenage girls near Temple University's campus on March 18. Police said Wasid West, 15, is charged with four counts of attempted murder and firearm crimes in connection with the incident. West is also being charged in two other shooting incidents. According to Philadelphia Police, the incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on March 18 at Cecil B. Moore Avenue and Broad Street. A teen boy came up to a vehicle with three 17-year-old girls and one 16-year-old girl inside it, asked for their phone numbers, then more boys surrounded the vehicle, police said. The girls tried to roll their windows up, but as the boys surrounded the vehicle, one of the girls sprayed pepper spray to get them away from the vehicle, according to police. As the boys ran away, someone fired shots eight shots at the vehicle, police said. Six shots hit the vehicle, and one of the 17-year-old girls and the 16-year-old girl were shot, one in the leg and the other in the back, respectively, according to police. The girls were taken to Temple University Hospital and have since been released. Police said West was spotted by a police helicopter handing a gun to a 14-year-old boy near 20th Street and Montgomery Avenue. The 14-year-old ran to his grandmother's house and forced his way in, police said. The boy then put the gun in a kitchen cabinet, but police saw the boy and were able to take him into custody and found the gun. Police said West is also believed to have been involved in a shooting on that occurred at about 8 p.m. on March 14 on the 1500 block of North Gratz Street. According to police, West and the 14-year-old shot up a house on that block after a parent of a child who lives there refused to let the child hang out with West. Additionally, authorities said West shot a 14-year-old boy at about 8:28 p.m. March 5 at Broad and Cecil B. Moore in an effort to get revenge from a previous shooting. That victim was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. West is being held on $2 million bail, police said.
