JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has filed six new charges against William Jenkins, the Dolton man shot by Joliet police officers in November in the Wendy's restaurant parking lot along Center Street. Jenkins has remained in the Will County Jail since Nov. 22. Now, his new bail total stands at $1.5 million. His newest charges are: Possession of controlled substances with intent to deliverAggravated batteryCriminal damage to government supported propertyResisting a peace officerUnlawful possession of a controlled substanceAggravated assault The new criminal complaint states that Jenkins struck Joliet police officer Thomas Conroy with a vehicle on Nov. 16, 2021, and that "he drove a motor vehicle at Thomas Conroy, knowing Thomas Conroy to be a peace officer performing his official duties." The resisting a peace officer charge indicates Jenkins "pulled his hands away and did not exit the vehicle he was in as the driver and put the vehicle into reverse and accelerated, and said violation was the proximate cause of an injury to Joliet Police Department officer Terrence Gruber." William Jenkins of Dolton was shot by Joliet police after he drove his car at Joliet police officer Tom Conroy on Nov. 16, prosecutors say. John Ferak/Patch Another charge indicates Jenkins intended to deliver 1 to 15 grams of cocaine on that particular day. Jenkins is also accused of damaging a Ford Expedition "without the consent of the State, and the damage to the property exceeded $500 but did not exceed $10,000." Back in November, the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow charged Jenkins with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. According to the original complaint, Jenkins delivered between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine in Joliet on Oct. 5, Oct. 7 and Oct. 20. On Nov. 18, Joliet Patch reported that when Joliet police tried to arrest Jenkins on the afternoon of Nov. 16, the cocaine-dealing suspect backed his vehicle into a Joliet police officer, pinning the officer against his own vehicle, according to police. Two other Joliet officers on the scene shot Jenkins inside his vehicle. The injured officer was expected to recover, and Jenkins' gunshot wounds were not life-threatening.
