KIDS NEED TO KNOW THE FACTS!
Sherry Lottero, a long-time educator and Fort Lee resident, has just published a new book about the COVID-19 pandemic entitled “Why Can’t I Play With My Friends? - A Pandemic Playbook For Kids.” The book is delightfully illustrated and its informative text deals with how life has changed through the COVID-19 pandemic. With explanatory visuals, children get to understand how the pandemic is spread, what precautions we must take and why, and the definition of many new words they are hearing, such as “social distancing.” It validates their feelings and brings them comfort in knowing that all of us, young and old, are asking the same questions and sharing the same feelings. The book is targeted to ages 3- 8 and is a great gift and a valuable addition to any school and personal library.
Lottero stated her reason for writing the book. “The children of the world are experiencing a situation unlike any other we have known in our lifetime! As a passionate and life-long educator, I am deeply concerned with the current, as well as residual effects of the pandemic upon global youth. Their fears, lack of true understanding and confusion with the dramatic changes in their lives, will have lingering effects on them and their psychological development.” She wrote this “pandemic playbook” to serve our world’s youth and make their day-to-day lives more understandable and less threatening. Lottero believes children need to know the facts!
