SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The woman who was reported missing March 9 after she left on horseback ride and her horse returned home without her died of blunt force trauma to the neck, according to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner. The medical examiner ruled the death of Jillian Underschultz, 62, as accidental. Underschultz left her home near 144th Street and Hawknest Road around 2:30 p.m. on horseback, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. About two hours later her horse returned home without her, the sheriff's office said. She was reported missing shortly after that. The sheriff's office, along with volunteers, searched the desert for Underschultz on March 10 and her body was discovered that day. Underschultz regularly rode her horse in the desert area near her home in Scottsdale.
