Early Voting Breaks Records In DuPage County: Clerk's Office

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — Monday was the first day of early voting at several sites across DuPage County and voters broke the existing records by 58 percent, according to the DuPage County Clerk's Office. By the end of Monday, 12,380 ballots had been cast. In 2016, 7,809 DuPage County voters cast ballots on the first day of voting. In 2008, that number was 2,956. List of Early Voting Locations In DuPage County In total, more than 18 percent of voters in DuPage County have cast their ballots via early voting or mail-in voting, according to the county clerk's office. The county expanded early voting sites by 50 percent since the March primary. "High voter turnout reflects the enthusiasm for democracy. When voters don't exercise their franchise, they allow those who do to make decisions for them which impact their lives," County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek said in a news release. Kaczmarek added, "When more people vote, it gives governments and those that are elected to run them greater legitimacy." At press time, 202,764 voters have applied for mail ballots and 85,983 have been verified. Kaczmarek urged voters who have not received their mail-in ballots to complete and turn them in as soon as possible.
