WHEATON, IL — A number of Wheaton residents have been the target of unemployment identity theft, according to recent police reports. As of a recent police report, more than 40 residents reported that someone used their personal information to apply for unemployment benefits. According to the DuPage County Sheriff's office, a growing number of residents have unexpectedly received prepaid unemployment cards that claim to be from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Unemployment Card Fraud On Rise: DuPage County Sheriff's Office If you receive such a card and you have not applied for unemployment, the sheriff's office recommends that you do not activate the card. Instead, residents are advised to call 630-407-2400 to report a possible identity theft.
