REDONDO BEACH, CA — Redondo Beach police will step up DUI patrols around the Thanksgiving holiday, reminding drivers not to drive impaired, police announced
"During the Thanksgiving holiday Nov. 25-Nov.29, the Redondo Beach Police Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs," police said in a news release. "Officers will be actively looking for other unsafe driving practices – speeding, not wearing a seat belt, driving distracted – to make sure everyone has a safe holiday."
Safety is a top priority, officials said.
"We want everyone to enjoy the holidays and be safe when they must travel," Sgt. Andrew Lewis said in a news release. "Taking simple safety measures like driving sober, following the speed limit and wearing a seat belt helps keep yourself and others safe."
Police reminded drivers that a "DUI Doesn't Just Mean Booze," officials said.
"Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can also impair, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs," police said.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
