Horse Care

Jobs

Sheldon Road near Stickney Road, Fitchburg MA

Description

I am looking for someone who can help me care for me three sweet and lovely ponies in Fitchburg, MA. The job involves roughly 1.5 hours in the mornings and another 1 hour in the evenings, 7 days a week. Morning hours are flexible but ideally would be between 8 and 10 am (there is wiggle room here) and evening hours ideally would be between 6 and 8 pm (again with wiggle rom depending upon your schedule.) If you want more hours than the 2.5 hours I am offering here you could supplement with landscape work, working the gardens by weeding, mulching, dead heading, weed wacking the peripheries of the fields, using the zero turn mower to mow the fields, to name just a few of the farm chores available. This is an 80 acre farm so there is a never ending list of things that need doing. My ideal candidate would be someone who has some experience with horses but I am willing to train. However if you are actually afraid of horses then this is not the right gig for you. As said, my three are pretty much as sweet as can be and have never kicked or bitten a human (although they do sometimes kick and bite each other). In the late spring, summer, and fall months you would be turning the three out to pasture roughly four times a week so there would be very little to do in the evenings except bring therm back to their stalls, feed and provide fresh water. The job also involves monitoring the necessary supplies (grain for feeding, hay for feeding, shavings for the stalls) and ordering more when necessary. I get my supplies from the Townsend Farmer's Exchange and you would be using my truck to pick up whatever it is you ordered. I am looking for someone who can make a real commitment to the horses specifically and to the farm more generally. The ideal candidate would be willing to keep the job for at least a year. This is enough time to build a bond with the ponies, to learn to ride them if you wish, and to contribute to the farmland if this is something that interests you. Pay is 16.00 dollars an hour but there is a cap on this. I expect you to get the mornings done in 1.5 hours maximum and the evening hours done in one hour maximum. Picking up supplies or doing other farm chores will obviously add to those hours and we can discuss how many these should be. For the right person, the person who truly loves the land and the animals on it and who makes a true time and emotional commitment I am willing to discuss the possibility of giving five acres in farmland as a "gift." This would then be your land to build your own home on, my only request that you not sell for at least ten years. Because this is a huge offering I would need to get to know you really very well and it would not happen until at least a year had gone by, or more. You can reach me at 978 660 3167. Please specify in your text that you are applying for the horse care job offered on CL and please give me a brief description of your experience and the commitment you are willing to make. The is an amazing farm and the right individual would be able to add much value which in turn would come back to you.
