WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs experienced a smaller increase in coronavirus cases than it has seen in recent weeks, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. As of Sunday, the village had 243 cases, up 10 from a week earlier. That amounted to a 4 percent hike, compared with the 7 percent increases from the three previous weeks. The number of deaths stayed at two, with the last one reported in mid-July. Figures on those who have recovered from the coronavirus are unavailable. The figure compares to 14.7 in La Grange Park, 15 in Darien, 19.7 in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County, 20.4 in Elmhurst, 22.6 in Hinsdale, 24.9 in suburban Cook County, 25.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands) and 26.4 in Burr Ridge. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 301,541, up 5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 8,791 state residents. Nationally, 7.4 million people have caught the virus, up 4 percent from the week before. A total of 208,821 people have died from the virus in the United States.
