WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — Western Springs saw a 13 percent increase in its total coronavirus cases since the pandemic's beginning, according to the Cook County Public Health Department. That's lower than the previous week's 26 percent. As of Sunday, the village had 486 coronavirus cases, up by 56 from a week before. The number of those who have recovered from the virus is unavailable. The number of deaths stands at three, with the last one reported on Halloween. That's a mortality rate of less than 1 percent. All the local deaths have been those who were 58 or older, according to the medical examiner. The figure compares to 32.9 in La Grange Park, 35.2 in Darien, 38 in Hinsdale, 38.6 in Clarendon Hills, 41.6 in Elmhurst and DuPage County, 46.3 in suburban Cook County, 47 in Burr Ridge and 50.4 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands). As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 656,298, up 14.4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 11,056 state residents. Nationally, 12 million people have caught the virus, up 11.1 percent from the week before. A total of 255,076 people have died from the virus in the United States.
