Description

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — A Western Springs resident was hoping to get a $750 refund as the result of the dissatisfaction with software, but ended up with a loss of much more than that, according to a police report. The incident was reported over the weekend. The resident, who lives in the 1400 block of Walnut Street, told police that a software company deposited $9,000 into the resident's bank account, far more than the $750 refund sought, the report said. The company then asked the resident to wire money from the account to make up for the over-refund, police said. The resident complied, but the company said the first wire transfer was rejected. So the resident tried again. In the end, police said, the refund was not deposited, but the withdrawals went through. The resident suffered a financial loss of more than $14,000, according to the report.
