WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — In the last few days, Western Springs police handled cases involving a painter thief, a baseball card scam, a stolen purse and an egging. Here is information from the police reports: A painter at a house in the 3900 block of Grand Avenue took a delivery person's wallet while the person was making a delivery to the house. When confronted, the suspect dropped the wallet and ran away. About $100 was taken from the wallet. A resident in the 5100 block of Lawn Avenue sold a rare baseball card over eBay for $225 and shipped it to the buyer. But the buyer told eBay that the card was only valued at $10, so eBay refunded the buyer the $225, leaving the resident without the card or the payment. The report was made Nov. 1.A purse left on a bench in front of Oberweis Dairy, 929 Burlington Ave., about 7 p.m. Wednesday was stolen. It was gone by the time the owner returned 10 minutes later. The purse contained house and car keys, a driver's license and credit cards. A house and car were egged between 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday in the 3900 block of Gilbert Avenue. A U.S. Postal Service semi-truck hit and damaged an alley dumpster belonging to Village Hardware, 835 Burlington Ave., about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
