Description
Putting together a NYC-based jam band. Looking for musicians of all musical backgrounds who can listen well, play syncopated, gel with each other and carry a jam through a journey.
If you know and/or like From Good Homes, Donna the Buffalo, early Dave Matthews Band (1992-1998), the E Street Band, Phish, the Allman Brothers, current Widespread Panic (the lineup with Jimmy Herring and Butch Trucks), Big Brother and the Holding Co., Oliver Mtukudzi, John Butler Trio, Gillian Welch or the Grateful Dead, read on. Heck, if you don't but you're an open minded damn fine musician, read on as well... :-)
I'm an experienced musician with a new body of work written during the pandemic. My background is in jazz, folk and alt-country. This work lives somewhere in between those genres and the songs tend to be more 7-15 minutes long, with some musically unusual bits. I'm looking for a NY-based band to bring this work to life. Specifically, I'm looking for:
Drummer who can bring swing and syncopation to standard rock and funk grooves. (Think Carter Beauford of DMB or Abe Laboriel, Jr.) Should be comfortable with the occasional odd meter groove, as well.
Bassist who has a handle of funk and reggae feels.
Vocalist (can also be an instrumentalist who sings) with a good sense of bluegrass and country harmony. Think David Rawlings, Christie McVie or anyone from Laurel Canyon in the 1970's.
Any other instruments ready to bring it to life - keys, trombone, guitar, clarinet, harmonica, flute you name it! If this music excites you and you can rip, I want to jam with you...
Let's do this, New York! It's been too long since NYC produced a great jam band. Our time is now!
Dave
