Lewis Cass Schools, in collaboration with PATINS Project, Center on Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) at IU will host UDL conference. Lewis Cass Schools, in collaboration with PATINS Project, Center on Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Indiana University, Bloomington, Logansport, and Maconaquah School Corporations would like to invite all interested persons to submit presentation proposals for the Summer of Learning Conference, to be held at Lewis Cass Jr/High School at 6422 E. St Rd 218 Walton, IN 46994 on July 13, 2022. The Conference will continue the collaborative efforts with school districts, universities, family organizations, and state-funded IDOE Projects/Programs. Together we will celebrate our mutual commitment to all students in Indiana to fulfill their fullest potential. There will be seven (7) strands highlighted this year focusing on Universal Design for Learning, Inclusion, and Innovative practices that support greater access to the general education curriculum, and supports the acceleration of learning. 1. Universal Design for Learning 2. Accessible Education Material 3. Assistive Technology 4. Learning Recovery 5. Digital Learning 6. Literacy 7. STEM This conference will feature amazing local and national speakers and best-selling authors. In addition to great professional learning, the first 150 people to register will receive a free book by one of our featured authors! The Lewis Cass conference collaboration is esteemed to have PATINS professional leaders present throughout the conference on UDL, Access, Assistive Tech, Literacy, and unlocking learning for ALL Indiana students. It is with their continued support that Indiana public schools will achieve the goal of Inclusion and students reaching their fullest potential. Haley Moss, best-selling author, artist, and first openly autistic female attorney in the State of Florida will be the conference's Keynote Speaker. The conference will also have an afternoon panel featuring, PATINS' Director for 10 years who has led the UDL initiative in Indiana and is wildly passionate about access, Daniel McNulty, in addition to Dr. George Van Horn, the Director of Special Education in Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation who is famously known as being one of the first UDL districts in the Nation. Coupled with the newly appointed Lindsey Jones CAST's Chief Executive Officer, the nonprofit education research and development organization that has created the Universal Design for Learning framework and UDL Guidelines. The afternoon will end with a conversation with Natalie Wexler, who is an education writer and the author of The Knowledge Gap: The Hidden Cause of America’s Broken Education System—And How to Fix It (Avery 2019). She is also the co-author, with Judith C. Hochman, of The Writing Revolution: A Guide to Advancing Thinking Through Writing in All Subjects and Grades (Jossey-Bass, 2017), and a senior contributor to the education channel on Forbes.com. You will DEFINITELY want to attend this conference! Lunch is NOT provided, however, the Lewis Cass hospitality team has arranged Food Trucks and Vendors to purchase snacks and lunch.
