Join us for a special release screening of At Your Cervix documentary, talkback with the filmmaker & special guests & post celebration! What At Your Cervix is about:Pelvic exams are often described as “Uncomfortable,” “Humiliating,” “Traumatic.” Medical students are commonly taught to perform pelvic exams by “practicing” on anesthetized patients before surgery without their consent, a direct result of the racist, misogynist and violent history of gynecology. Could there be a connection? At Your Cervix explores the history of gynecology and how it relates to the disrespectful, painful and non-consensual experiences patients have with gynecology to this day. Yet an ethical and effective way of teaching the pelvic exam has been in existence for over 40 years, in which the “patient” herself is the teacher. The Event:Please join us for this momentous event! At Your Cervix documentary has been in the works for many years and director and producer A'magine lives in Albuquerque where we'll have our first official screening at the Guild Cinema! This is a fundraiser to raise the finishing and distribution funds for this community-funded film, raise awareness of the issues and get laws passed! We will screen the film and have a Q&A talkback with A'magine and other local advocates to talk about consent, bodily autonomy and what we need to do to end the horrific use of patient bodies without consent to teach medical students. We will launch a campaign to pass a law here in New Mexico where none exists. Please join us afterwards to celebrate at a social mixer to talk to the filmmaker and other speakers, raise a toast and strategize. Post-mixer location to be announced.
