MISSION VIEJO, CA — It was a wide playing field for the 45th congressional district on Super Tuesday.
Voters cast their ballots to choose between their current congresswoman, Katie Porter and five others. Greg Raths, Peggy Huang, Rhonda Furin, Don Sedgwick, Lisa Sparks and Christopher Gonzales threw their hat in the ring against the outspoken Democratic Congresswoman, attorney, and UC Irvine law professor.
In 2018, an influx of Democrat voters in the middle of Orange County turned the tide for that district when Porter beat then-incumbent Rep. Mimi Walters.
This week Porter won the largest percentage of voters in what used to be known as a safe conservative 45th Congressional District, which contains the cities of Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita.
With all precincts reporting, Porter earned 48.1 percent of the vote while Republican candidate Greg Raths earned 18.9 percent of the vote.
