MARSHFIELD, MA — Nicholas Wanderley, a 17-year-old junior at Norwell High School was the passenger killed in a car crash early Sunday morning in Marshfield, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said. Wanderley was with two other boys when their car collided with a tree on Forest Street just after midnight Sunday, the district attorney's office said. When officers arrived at the scene, they found all three passengers trapped inside the vehicle. Wanderley was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two other 16-year-olds were taken to Children's Hospital in Boston and South Shore Hospital in Weymouth with serious injuries, Cruz said. As of Monday morning, there has been no update on their condition. Norwell Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Keegan released a statement after hearing of Wanderley's death. "He participated a lot at the school and clearly had a lot of friends," Keegan said. "We spend all our time educating and building a community and preparing people for their future, so any time we lose a student it's a devastating loss for our community." An early investigation into the accident shows the car was traveling south on Forest Street when it crossed the double yellow line, striking a tree, according to state troopers. The district attorney's office said the investigation into the crash is active and ongoing.
