HARLEM, NY — A would-be rapist attacked a woman from behind, knocked her to the ground, and beat her into critical condition Friday, police said. The man punched the 43-year-old woman in the back of the head on West 123rd Street between Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Boulevard about 11:30 p.m., police said. The woman fell to the ground and the man began to punch and kick her in the head, police said. The man then dragged the woman between two parked cars, ripped her clothes off, and attempted to rape her, police said. The attacker then ran off and left the woman with severe head trauma, according to the NYPD. Medics rushed the 43-year-old to Harlem Hospital in critical condition, police said. Police released photos on Sunday of the man wanted in connection to the disturbing attack, including an ominous image of the man putting on a blue medical glove. The attack is being investigated as an attempted murder and an attempted rape, officials said. Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
