Here are the top three stories today in Roanoke: Roanoke's Dustin Robert Holdren, 35, was found guilty of aggravated malicious wounding and robbery on Friday. Holdren allegedly attacked Lenora Farrington on Jun. 20, 2020 at an open house. Reports say Holdren struck Farrington 10 times with a large wrench and stole cash from her purse. Holdren will be sentenced on Sept. 16, 2022. (Franklin News Post)Roanoke College students are practicing their grant writing skills by collaborating with local nonprofits. The students identified funding opportunities for the organizations, researched, and crafted grant proposals. The collaboration was led by Dr. Kristen Rapp. (Augusta Free Press)Roanoke Fire-EMS has started flushing the fire hydrant system throughout Roanoke City. Flushing is needed to test the hydrants while clearing any build-up that has occurred over the years. The process may lead to residents experiencing a slight water discoloration temporarily.
