HAMDEN, CT — A 74-year-old woman was seriously injured after being carjacked Friday afternoon at the Hamden Plaza, according to police. Police responded to the Hamden Plaza, 2100 Dixwell Ave., around 3 p.m. on March 18 on the report of a carjacking, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Dolan said the victim was placing her purchases into the car when she was violently thrown to the ground from behind. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to Dolan. Police found that three suspects left in the victim's vehicle. The suspects arrived in another stolen vehicle that was recovered by police at the crime scene, according to Dolan. "The recovered stolen vehicle is suspected of being involved in a theft of a pocketbook from a vehicle, which was pumping gas a short time earlier," Dolan wrote in a news release. "Police in New Haven later recovered the carjacking victim's vehicle." Detectives from the Hamden Police Department's Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit are working on the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 203-230-4000. Callers can remain anonymous.
