BROOKFIELD, CT — The Brookfield Police Department announced it has raised $12,100 for the Connecticut Special Olympics through a "Penguin Plunge" event over the weekend. Participants immersed themselves in the icy cold waters of Candlewood Lake on Saturday in exchange for donations to the charity. In addition to the awards for top fundraisers and best costumes, participants received incentive prizes for their fundraising efforts. A popular fund-raising event throughout the state, this was the first time the Brookfield PD took "the plunge." It was the Department's most successful single-day fundraising event for Special Olympics Connecticut ever. "Our community has always stood behind us and supported us in every event we've sponsored or participated in, and that is the key to our success," police officials posted to social media.
