Press release from Carroll County Public Schools: Bowers, Brenda Monday, March 21, 2022 Carroll County Public Schools has received an $80,000 grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust to support environmental education opportunities for high school students to explore air quality on a local and global scale. With a goal of graduating students who are both scientifically and environmentally literate, funding from the grant will be used to organize environmental issue investigations, create outdoor field experiences involving data collection and analysis, and facilitate student-driven conclusions and action projects. The scope of the work includes providing hands-on professional learning for teachers, developing curriculum aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and Maryland Environmental Literacy Standards, and establishing new partnerships with neighboring school systems and nonprofits. According to Sarah Weaver, Supervisor of Secondary Science, "Carroll County Public Schools is excited to provide our high school students with continued meaningful environmental education experiences that enhance their engagement and enthusiasm for science!"
