Description
Press release from the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services:
March 21, 2022
Get ready to enjoy a smoother ride on a much improved section of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail THIS weekend! Opening earlier than anticipated, phase 1 of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail improvement project is officially complete and reopen for public use.
Phase 1 runs from the overpass at I-25 and Rockrimmon Boulevard to Criterium Bicycles. A detour is still in place while work completes on the second and third phases, so please follow detour signage. The full project – which runs north to the confluence of Cottonwood Creek along Monument Creek, near Pikes Peak Indian Motorcycle – remains on track to be complete in May 2022.
The project replaced deteriorated asphalt with a wider and more durable concrete surface, plus an adjacent gravel running trail. Damaged bridge decking was also removed and replaced and several drainage and stormwater improvements were achieved. The full project covers a 1.25-mile stretch of trail.
Happy trails!
