Press release from the City of Omaha: March 18, 2022 The Omaha Public Library Board of Trustees has approved a strategic plan for library services throughout the Omaha Public Library System over the next five years. The 2022-2026 Library Services Strategic Plan was developed with opinions received at a series of public meetings in October 2021, a public survey, input from library staff, and members of the Board of Trustees, Friends of the Omaha Public Library, and the Omaha Public Library Foundation. "We had an extraordinary amount and wholehearted engagement from the Omaha Public Library (OPL) staff and the public," said Susan Koenig. Koenig facilitated the strategic planning process. More than 1,200 surveys were completed, most by frequent users of the library. Results show the most preferred services are materials to checkout, events including book clubs, storytimes, author visits, Summer Reading Programs, and staff assistance. "It's always wonderful to see the support for our libraries," said OPL Executive Director Laura Marlane. The strategic plan lists three overall priorities; To Champion the Importance of Reading, Equal and Inclusive Access for All, and Extend Capacity to Create and Share Stories. Each priority includes a series of goals, including some programming and services delayed due to the pandemic. The OPL administrative staff will provide regular public reports on the strategic plan to the Board of Trustees. This press release was produced by the City of Omaha.
