JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested a 35-year-old Naperville man in connection with a small fire that started inside the Burlington clothing store on North Larkin Avenue on Saturday. Around 9:20 a.m. Joliet police were sent to Burlington because someone tried to light several items on fire inside the store. Burlington's employees determined that Kevin Johnson lit a large amount of toilet paper on fire and put it into the toilet in the men's bathroom, police said. All the fires extinguished themselves. It is unknown what prompted Johnson's behavior, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said. A pair of shoes and carpeting were also set on fire, Joliet police said. Joliet police arrested Johnson in the bathroom of the Ross store, also in the North Ridge Plaza. Johnson was booked into custody on charges of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct. Earlier Saturday morning, Joliet police were sent to the Walgreens on Ingalls Avenue for retail theft. Someone had stolen a lighter and cigarettes and left without paying for the items. After further investigation, Joliet police determined that Johnson was the suspect in the retail theft as well. He was charged and released on an I-Bond for this incident.
