MICHAEL, MN — The St. Michael-Albertville High School girls basketball team came up just short in its quest for its first state championship since 2009 as it lost Saturday night in the Class AAAA title game. The Knights fell 72-56 to Hopkins, who are ranked as the sixth-best high school girls basketball team in the U.S., according to the Minnesota State High School League's report on the game. STMA was out for revenge after losing by 40 points to Hopkins toward the end of the regular season. But Hopkins outshot the Knights from all areas of the floor during the title game, beating STMA in field-goal percentage, three-point percentage and free-throw accuracy, MSHSL statistics show. Senior Emma Miller added 15 points and three assists, while sophomore Ja'Kahla Craft had 12 points and two assists during the state championship game. Hopkins' Liv McGill put up 25 points, while Taylor Woodson added 16, Nunu Agara had 11 and Maya Nnaji and Amaya Battle each scored nine points, game statistics show.
