Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: March 17, 2022 The following information is fragmentary and has not been completely verified. It is based, in part, on hearsay and is intended for early information use rather than being a formal investigative report. On March 10, 2022, the San Diego Police Department responded to a traffic collision at Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and I-8 in the City of San Diego. The driver of one of the vehicles involved in the collision was identified as twenty-two-year-old William Schuck. Pursuant to an investigation Schuck was arrested for 23152(f) VC – DUI Drugs, 11550(e) HS – Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, 25400(c)(6) PC – Carrying a Concealed Weapon, 25850(c)(6) PC – Carrying an Unregistered Handgun, 29180(2)(a) PC – Possess Firearm without a Serial Number, 32310(c) PC – Possess Large Capacity Magazine, and 11350(a) HS – Possession of a Controlled Substance. Schuck was transported to the hospital by San Diego Police for an initial medical assessment following the collision. No obvious external signs of trauma or illness were identified; the patient declined further evaluation and testing prior to being booked into the San Diego Central Jail. On March 16, 2022, at about 9:41 a.m., deputies were performing a safety check when they found Schuck unresponsive in his cell. Deputies and medical staff immediately performed lifesaving measures until relieved by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, Schuck was pronounced deceased at the facility. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded to investigate the death. Schuck was alone in the cell and there were no obvious signs of trauma. No evidence of foul play was discovered. The Citizen's Law Enforcement Review Board (CLERB) was notified of the death and an investigator responded to the facility. Schuck was a resident of Orange County and his family has been notified of his death. The Medical Examiner's Office has scheduled an autopsy for later today.
