Description

Press release from Hennepin County Library: March 20, 2022 Seven artists explore themes of relational trauma, consent violations, and expressions of gender fluidity. UnderExposed includes traditional drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as artworks created from unusual materials (latex, discarded clothing, human hair, and found objects) which speak directly to politics of the body. Images and text convey the emotional weight and historical significance of the written word. Artworks juxtapose, connecting self-censorship, oppressive gender norms, and ongoing indigenous land abuse via settler-colonialism. UnderExposed tackles this difficult subject matter with raw and visceral materiality, balanced with honest sensitivity. Visit this exhibition at the Cargill Gallery, located on the second floor of Minneapolis Central Library, from April 7 – May 27, 2022. Contributing artists: Ak Garski, Jamie Kubat, Katayoun Amjadi, Nancy Julia Hicks, Maggie Thompson, Beau Tate, and Kieran Myles-Andrés Tverbakk Learn more about the Cargill Gallery.
