TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park's Mayor Jacob Vandenberg announced he will not seek reelection in April. Vandenberg announced on Facebook Wednesday that he will be leaving office after the April 2021 election, saying it was an honor to represent the village. Vandenberg was elected in 2017 and served two years as one of the village trustee before becoming mayor. "It has been the honor of a lifetime to represent my fellow Tinley Park neighbors and businesses," Vandenberg said. "My primary responsibility in life is to dedicate 100 percent of my time, energy, focus and love on being the husband, father and small business owner that is expected of me. The saying of 'not having enough time in the day' applies to me daily. The decision was easy: My family is first, no matter the scenario. Therefore, I will not seek re-election for mayor of Tinley Park." In his statement, Vandenberg said Tinley Park is worth fighting for and that the village is "worthy of nothing but the absolute best from its leaders." "I feel I provided that during my administration. I fought for the future of Tinley Park and will continue to do so as a citizen," he said. " After all, that is our responsibility as citizens of this great country. Thank you for placing your trust in me to lead our village. I will be forever grateful." Vandenberg's announcement comes less than a week after Trustee Mike Glotz declared he will be running for mayor. As of now, Glotz is the only candidate for Tinley Park mayor in April 2021.
