From the Richard Free Press: TINLEY PARK, Ill. — Even amidst a pandemic, Tinley Park residents are going out of their way to try to help those less fortunate. The most recent example came Oct. 30, as Tinley Park trustees Michael Glotz and William Brady, and the One Tinley Park group held a community blood drive with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois at Union Bar & Grill, 17821 80th Ave. in Tinley Park. With nearly 30 donors present, 22 pints of blood were collected at the event — which will potentially help save the lives of about 66 patients, according to a Nov. 2 letter sent to One Tinley Park from a Versiti account representative. The Versiti letter stated that 12 people who attended the event were first-time blood donors. It also stated that the blood collected "stays local" by going to nearby hospitals. "We were all humbled and thankful for everybody's generosity to help our neighbors during COVID-19," Glotz said. "Versiti said we helped save 66 lives. That made it all worth it, and our team discussed [the possibility of] starting to host a blood drive a couple times per year now." Glotz also said he was happy to be able to team up with the staff at Union Bar & Grill for the event.
