Description
Hello! I'm a guitarist, singer, and sometimes drummer looking to find like-minded musicians and start something.
My influences are numerous - Sonic Youth, Buck Owens, Don Cherry, Unwound and Wire, just to pick the most apparent. I like a lot of different kinds of music and have played in a number of different kinds of bands, primarily punk bands; my guitar playing tends toward the noisy and frenetic. I would be happy to give some samples of my playing to those interested. For this project, I'm trying to do something in the "post-punk" vein, by which I mean more sparse, first-wave acts such as Gang of Four or Mission of Burma. The sound will develop out of what each member can bring to the table, but generally speaking I'm looking for people interested in a live-oriented project, rather than a production-heavy, "album-focused" affair.
I am looking for other musicians who are willing to experiment, who favor collaborative or mostly collaborative songwriting, and who are happy to take risks while playing and when performing. Any sort of musical background is welcome, although anyone with training should know I know little of theory. I don’t think it’s reasonable to ask that anyone only come to this project (which does not yet exist) if they are fully committed – but I will state honestly that I intend to, and will, work hard to write and rehearse outside of practice to make the most out of this band, and I would like to find partners with a similar mindset.
It is worth noting that I play loud and sometimes veer into dissonance or atonal noise; those are infrequent occurrences, but it’s a part of a handful of songs I write. If you’re not comfortable with that then this probably isn’t the outfit for you.
If the possibility of an angular, off-kilter post punk project appeals to you, please write and let’s get it poppin’!
