Questions about the music in Washoe County

Description

In order to promote music appreciation beyond just for hobiests I am wondering how both amature and professional musicians are engaging in music in Washoe county. It used to be that demand for instruments could be used to tell what level of interest there was in learning to play to become some level of professional. Opportunities for professional musicians existed everywhere. On craigslist and Facebook Marketplace the same instruments seem to be displayed with very little purchasing taking place. Why is that? Prices to high, to much junk instruments available? Just asking! Is it due to a lack of interest in playing music? Is it because places like Guitar Center and other online stores have cornered the market? Is there a lack of qualified teaching/coaching? What incentives for playing as professional musicians are there? Are parents really involved? Are instruments being purchased being relegated to non use like exercise equipment? Are professional and or amature musicians dependable for practicing, rehearsing and gigging? It seems that qualified answers to these types of questions are needed just to see what the future holds for musicians in the community beyond the hype filled news of so called 'rock star' status being the only reality. In years past every neighborhood in Washoe county had levels of young people striving to play professionally either fulltime or parttime. They practiced at home alone or in garage bands. Others were supported by parents or worked day jobs to pay for taking prolonged courses, going on to college, everywhere music was interesting and fun. Competitive auditions for work at the university, highs schools, nightclubs for adults, dance halls for teens was the reality, not Nashville, Hollywood hype. Some really great self taught hard working musicians came from our area. What are the reasons for modern stagnation?
